TETRAXIM
is a combination vaccine that protects against four infectious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio.

Ingredients: The vaccine contains inactivated (killed) antigens of diphtheria and tetanus toxins, as well as antigens of bacteria that cause whooping cough, and inactivated polio viruses.

Indications: Primary immunization and booster vaccination against:
  • Diphtheria
  • Tetanus
  • Whooping cough
  • Polio (inactivated)
Method of administration and dose:

  • Primary vaccination: 3 injections at one-month intervals, that is, according to the official schedule, at 2, 3 and 4 months of age.
  • Re-vaccination: 1 injection one year after primary vaccination, that is, usually between 16 and 18 months.
  • Re-vaccination between the ages of 5 and 13: 1 injection.
For primary vaccination and the first repeated dose, this vaccine may be administered concomitantly with or administered concomitantly with Haemophilus influenzae type b (Act-HIB) vaccine but at different injection sites.

Before vaccination, a pediatrician must be examined!
  • Intramuscularly administered. It is preferable to inject into the anterolateral thigh surface (middle third) in infants and into the deltoid region in children over two years of age.
Method of administration:
  • The vaccine is administered in a single dose of 0.5 ml, intramuscularly.
  • Children of the first years of life, the vaccine is injected into the upper-outer surface of the middle third of the thigh.
  • Persons older than 2 years of age - in the deltoid muscle of the shoulder.
Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to any of the active substances in TETRAXIM, to any of the excipients: to glutaraldehyde, neomycin, streptomycin or polymyxin B (used during the manufacturing process and which may be present in trace amounts), to pertussis vaccine (acellular or whole cell).
  • A life-threatening reaction following previous administration of the same vaccine or vaccine containing the same substances.
  • Vaccination should be delayed in case of febrile or acute illness.
  • Developing encephalopathy.
  • Encephalopathy within 7 days of the previous dose of any vaccine containing whooping cough antigens (whole cell or acellular whooping cough vaccines).
Possible side effects:
  • Serious allergic reactions: very rare, may occur while the baby is at the vaccine site. May be: swelling of the face, sudden swelling of the face and neck, anaphylactic reaction.
  • Others: loss of appetite, irritability, crying, drowsiness, headache, vomiting, muscle pain, redness and swelling at the injection site, temperature up to 38°C, general malaise, diarrhea.
